Top Tips

Every skin care guru understands the role of the skin care regime in obtaining perfect, glowing skin, however with the vast array of products and treatments available, it is easy to be distracted from your daily must dos. The following points outline the compulsory steps needed in every routine in order to ensure skin perfection is obtained:

Step 1

No matter what your skin type, avoid soaps, detergents and harsh chemicals. These change the pH of the skin whilst stripping it of its natural oils. This leads to an imbalance in the bodies inner homeostatic mechanism and it is this imbalance that often leads to skin imperfections. Instead start the day by washing with luke warm water.

Step 2

of your morning routine should consist of a serum containing phytoprotectants and antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E and/ or Zinc. Retinoids or vitamin A products should be avoided as part of the morning regime, and instead used at night.

Step 3

Always, always, always moisturise. No matter what your skin type, moisturising is a daily must following your morning serum. Moisturising hydrates the skin, promoting cell renewal and forming a barrier against external agents. The result, youthful glowing skin.

Step 4

Never leave the house without applying SpF. Whatever the weather, whether cloudy or sunny, if it's daylight outside apply an SpF of at least 30 regardless of your skin colour. Ensure your SpF contains both a physical and chemical barrier so that your skin is protected against all wavelengths of the light spectrum.

Step 5

Hydrate. Whilst out and about don't forget to drink water. Tea and coffee dehydrate, leaving dry, thirsty skin which is more prone to imperfections. Water is the key to driving all bodily processes, whether cell death in weight loss, or cell renewal in the process of rejeuvenation.

Step 6

Avoid make- up removers, cleansers and toners, when removing make-up. Instead use oil based products to gently wipe up away all residual dirt and product from the skin surface. Oil based products ensure easy removal of makeup and prevent damage of the skin surface by abrasive chemical agents, as well as leaving a cleansed, hydrated result. This should be followed by rinsing with luke warm water.

Step 7

After removing make-up and rinsing in the evening, serums should be applied to freshly cleansed skin prior to any other products. Serums should include peptides, growth factors and anti-oxidants, and can be tailored to each individuals skin requirements, to promote cell renewal, rejeuvenation, exfoliation and healing. Pick 2 or 3, including a retinoid, to be used nightly.

Step 8

A nourishing moisturiser should be used next to seal in the serums, thus making them more effective, as well as forming a natural barrier on the skin.

Step 9

If you have sensitive skin, use the moisturiser prior to applying serums. The cream will reduce the potency of the serum, thus reducing the chance of irritation.

Step 10

Following your serum and moisturiser, apply a facial oil to hydrate the skin to the max. Overnight the body loses fluid which is not replaced by drinking or applying cream, thus it is important to ensure it is fully moisturised before retiring for bed.
